Cell Protection

Hi
When protecting a selection of cells in a workbook
(Format cells -locked) then password protect worksheet,
the cells that are not locked allow text input,
but if i try to shade(colour) the cells it will not
allow me to.

That's the way it is. You can't format a locked sheet.
