With an Excel 2000 spreadsheet I am working on now Excel
seems to be randomly deciding whether to display the
result of the formula I entered (which is what I want) or
to display the formula (which I don't want).

How do I get Excel 2000 to display the result of the
formula rather than the formula itself?

Hi Chuck!

Three possibilities:

1. Where formulas in all cells are being shown:

Tools > Options
View tab
Remove check from Formulas
OK

It could be that you've accidentally hit the toggle shortcut Ctrl + ~.

2. For an individual or group showing of formulas:

It could be that the cells are formatted as Text. So format with any
number format using the Format > Cells > Number Tab

3. For an individual formula.

It could be a character inserted before the = sign. So Select the
cell, F2, Home, and delete any preceding characters.
