I'm trying to conditionally format a cell by comparing
dates. I wanted to know how to refer the date of the cell
to the date of the day. For example how would I format a
cell by saying "if the date of this cell is less than the
date today then...". I know that it could refer it to
another cell which has the date today but that means I
have to manually change the date of the reference cell. In
short I wanted to know how to use the computer's calendar
(timer)as a reference for formatting a cell.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Dan
in the conditional format dialog enter the following formula
=A1<TODAY()
and choose the format for cell A1

Thanks Frank. I tried your suggestion but it seems like
excel does not correlate today as a date but as a name so
I still cannot do what I wanted to do. Do you have any
other suggetions?

Again thanks in advance.

Dan

I found it. The syntax should include the () at the end of
today and today should not be inside quotation marks.

Again Vielen Dank!

hi there,

have you put it under the 'Formula Is' section of CF? just make sur
you type it in exactly as Frank has posted
