Somehow the cell background colors disappeared from a lot of pages. I hadn't
changed the html on the pages themselves (as far as I can remember) but I'd
been working with a style sheet linked to them - not on cell background
color. Anyway, somehow they were all white. I used the cell properties
dialog box to change them from "automatic" to the color I wanted, wondering
how they'd gotten changed to automatic.

Then I noticed that for each cell, the background color was stated two
different ways. For example:

bgcolor="#C4DED6" style="background-color: #C4DED6">

Since bgcolor= didn't seem to do anything, I erased all those and left the
style= which did work. But I'm a little concerned to know how this happened
and if I did the right thing. Suggestions?

OK. I'll try that. I did quite a few things yesterday without backing up the
pages or resaving them as new drafts, which I heartily regret. (Hope this
saves someone else from a similar mistake.)

It seems as if strange things happen if you link a page to a stylesheet and
then make changes to the stylesheet. Maybe this is something you should
never do? I wasn't having any trouble with this method - but then somehow
all the cell backgrounds disappeared from the pages linked to the
stylesheet. The only change to the stylesheet was adding a:link lines to
it - so I haven't figured out how this could have changed the cell
background colors. But somehow it nullified them all.
