Celeron 566 boot problem - motherboard issue ?

My Celeron 566 (upgraded from 336) won't boot. I have Win98 installed (no
disk, I think my dad bought it from a shonky pirate store), and when I boot
up it gets past the initial system screens but then crashes when it seems to
be transferring power over to the OS. I don't think it's a HD problem as I
have the same problem when booting Linux from CD and Linuux or Windows from
floppy. The only thing I think could be the problem is the motherboard.
Can anyone please confirm my suspicions and/or offer a suggestion, and does
anyone know where I might be able to find a replacement motherboard and what
type I need.

Specs are:

Celeron 566 socket 370 CPU
128mb ram (2x56mb)
Seagate 3.6gb HD
Don't know anything more about the motherboard

Try a clean install of the operating system.

If that doesn't help, it probably is the motherboard. You
could seek/apply a bios update to motherboard (while old 366
CPU is still installed). Try clearing CMOS. If neither
helps, inspect system for loose cards, wires, etc, that
might've been disturbed while installing CPU.

Check that heatsink is properly installed. A Celeron 566 is
a pretty low heat CPU and might run for a long time with
improperly installed heatsink, in same situation that might
fry a modern CPU.

If nothing else helps, replace the motherboard with another
claiming Coppermine support, or support of any Celeron or P3
past 600MHz. These day's it's hard to justify buying a new
motherboard for a mere 566MHz CPU though, unless you find it
really cheap.
