All of a sudden, my computer won't recognise any audio CDs. I can play
CD-ROMs and DVDs but not CDs. It just makes a dull clicking noise when I put
it in.

I have a fairly new Packard Bell computer with Windows XP. I tried using the
device troubleshooter but it didn't help.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong?

Make sure the cd is of good quality.

Also make sure cd is placed correctly into the cd reader hardware.

Have you set your software correctly to read/ play cd's?

If the hardware plays DVD's (movies) and CD- rom's, try another audio cd.

The "dull clicking noise" indicates that the drive is physically
damaged. Replace it. If the machine is under warranty, contact the OEM.
Otherwise if it is a standard optical drive, it is inexpensive to
replace it.
