windows xp pro wrote the message files to a CDRW when i needed to reinstall
windows, but it has made them read only without asking me. how do i get my
mail off the CDRW and onto my HD so i can put it in the folder on my computer?

The problem is, it won't let me change the attributes. it keeps saying access
is denied

Hi,

Try this:

- copy the file to the hard disk
- reight-click on the file(s) on the hard disk, Properties - remove the Read
only bit.

Kind regards

Hans

i already tried that. That is what i said actually. when i try to remove
"read only" on the files, it says "access denied" even if i use
administrator. but the files are set to be accessible by everyone..

if there is no way to change attributes, or copy the files, is there a
program that can open these .dbx files and allow me to forward my old e-mails
to myself, thus creating versions of the e-mails that are read and write?

Did you follow the instructions and copy it to an empty Windows folder on
the hard drive?

well the only thing i was able to change was the simple file sharing checkbox.

i am unable to copy the files. it says the files are read only. if i try to
change that, it says access denied.

the answer i received was repeated from prior answers and i have repetitively
explained in the same thread that those answers are repeated that i am unable
to do what has already been suggested.

If Windows Explorer cannot copy the files from the CD to an empty Windows
folder on the hard drive then you have a bad CD.
