cdrw & dvd rom drives wont work

Can any one help me. since windows downloaded updates to
my computer i cant play or burn discs on my drives. my
computer is a IQON/PHILIPS all in one unit. the drives
have a question mark on them. i have tryed everything on
the microsoft site and it didn`t fix it for me. can
anyone out there help me fix it.
 
Paul, remove or uninstall the drives from Device Manager. Restart and
let WinXP reinstall them.

Regastry next, but some one else tried it and no joy. All
i keep getting is CODE 19.
 
find the hotfix that was the fix for the device and
uninstall it, and reinstall the drivers for the device.
