CDRW does shows option for erase or format

I have a Toshiba laptop that has a CDRW/ DVD drive. When I use CDRW it does
shows option for erase or format. Moreover the blank CD shows no free space.
Any idea?

Is the CDRW media the correct speed for the drive?

If your drive has the words "High Speed" at the right of the logo on the
drive, you need high speed media. If your drive does not have these words,
you cannot use high speed media.
