CDROMS NOT RECOGNIZED, I have 2 cd's a cdrw and a cdrom
both were working fine until recently now windows doesn't
recognize them. They don't show up anywhere its as if
they don't exist. I haven't added or removed any hardware
or software. I've only seen this happend one other time
and was on a win98 machine. I had to reformat that one to
get them working again. I really don't want to reformat
here. Any Ideas?

Thanks for any help
Nick

Are the drive IDE or SCSI devices? If you look at Device Manager, are they
listed, possibly with yellow or red icons on them? Is anything else "banged"
out? Did you make any hardware or software changes just before you "lost"
the drives?

I have also had a similar problem. I was having no luck
getting sound restored when I found it was a hardware
problem (I unplugged it when I put in some ram) but now
that I have reattached it, the CD-ROM is not recognized.
It just disappeared. Could it be hardware incompatibility?
They worked fine together with Win98 SE but now that I
have Win2000, they don't seem to work together at the same
time.

IDE. Not listed in Device Manager at all, everything else is fine. No new
hardware or software has been added.
