I have an odd problem that is similar (but different) from
other problems posted here.

System: KT7-RAID
1.5 GB RAM
Windows 2000 SP4
CD-ROM Toshiba xm-5702b
CD-R/W Plextor PL-1210S (SCSI)

I can play an audio cd and it will autostart, and the CD
icon in Windows Explorer shows the CD with the musical
note on it, but Explorer does not list the disk name.
I can copy a data CD, but again Explorer does not show the
names of either disk.
No program disks autostart even though autostart is
enabled and the proper .inf files are on the disks.
If you insert a CD and double click on CD icon in
Explorer, you are informed that the disk
needs 'formatting'.
Third-party programs like IsoBuster are able to find
directories.
An earlier post stated that Norton Anti-Virus can
sometimes cause problems like this, however, I've had NAV
running with no problems
I believe (but I'm not sure) that the problem began after
I installed Nero 5.54. I tried uninstalling Nero but it
did not help. I've used Nero 5.54 in a similar
installation with no problems
Please help, without autostart or a directory in Windows
Explorer, I can't install any software!

NAV will run just fine - it's its effect on _other_ programs that's the
problem. Uninstall it, and see if that fixes your problem. I seem to recall
that Norton has an update that fixes the problem, so you should go to their
website and look for the update(s) (you will have to pay for it, if your
initial subscription has run out.)
