I am running XP home and I recently found that my cdrom drivers have become
missing. By that I mean they are no longer seen by my system.
They are:
HITACHI DVD-ROM GD-5000
Sony CD-RW crx100e
And they have been working fine for years with whatever operating system I
was using. And they have been working fine in particular with XP since I
installed it a couple of years ago.
Also I have a dual boot setup here so I can boot into linux and while in
that operating system these two cdrom drives are seen ok and work ok.
Now , what I have tried to do when working in windows, is to have windows
look for these drives all over again. I have gone in to the device manager
and uninstalled these devices and asked the system to look for the drivers
again. It always comes back and says things are fine as far as the drivers
are concerned but it says there could be a further problem. I also tried
uninstalling these drives and just rebooted the computer. They are again
seen and installed but are always left with the little ! showing.
I don't know where else to turn. I can't put my XP cdrom in these drives
to look for original drivers again. As the system doesn't see these drives.
And I refuse to format my harddrive and start all over again..
Any thought fellows??
