I had a systems crash during a session using the
Microsoft update feature (operator error I'm sure).
Anyway, now the OS wont recognize my CD-RW or my DVD
drive. When I try and chk them in the Device Manager, the
CDROM class is not even an option. I've pounded my head
on the wall with this one with no luck. ANY help is
appreciated.

Download this fix to fix missing Cd drives or drives with error 39
etc:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_cd_dvd_fix.htm. Download
the vbs
script file, double click it and click yes when prompted. You will
need to
reboot for the changes to take effect.
