In XP Start/Administrator/Services, there's a prog called CdillaCda11BA.
Read somewhere, it's a backdoor snooper that sends info to a database on
user CD copy activity. And, it avoids being picked up by AdAware or Spybot.
Can this prog be deleted ? Seems to be difficult to inactivate - reatarts
with every boot-up.
Len

If you have TurboTax for 2002, it is a needed file.
If you HAD turboTax 2002 and deleted it, then you have to go to the TT
website for a program to delete Cdilla.
JD

Yes I found this on my system.

Goto Start > Run, type 'services.msc' Find CDilla, right click, properties,
stop, then in startup type choose to disable it, press apply OK close
services.
Go back to Start > Run, type 'msconfig.exe' click on the 'startup' tab and
deselect CDilla. Then click on the 'services' tab and again deselect CDilla,
apply OK
reboot
run spybot search and destroy, (don't forget to update) or delete manually,
it's normally in the root of C drive (hidden)
another good program for removing nasties is Hijack this from:

And don't forget to send a nastygram to Intuit telling them that you
will discontinue using TurboTax, or of their products, that use CDilla
or any such corruptive and invasive copy protection scheme. Money
talks. The lack of it screams. When I found out about them using
CDilla, I stopped using their products.

Intuit reponded to the uproar over this long ago. They made it
possihble to remove it last year, and this year's Turbo Tax
doesn't use it at all.

Thanks everyone - that's JD, Sr.Bocadillo, Vanguard and Ken - for your
responses.
Very odd - I have no (nor had any) Intuit software - haven't a clue what the
tax thingy is, so assume it's a US prog (and I'm not in US). Only thing I
did have was MS Money, which I didn't get on with, so don't use.
In Admin Services, it says CdillaCda11BA has no dependencies (nevertheless
runs - I'll fix that, thanks to your input).
I find it strange that a TAX (presumably tax return) prog MUST use it -
since it secretly sends data somewhere, who knows what data, or to what use
it is put - a tax return is your intimate financial data - I'd be very
concerned if 'twere me !
Thanks again, folks, for yr help. It's 01.15 here in UK - I'm off to bed now
!! Goodnight ....

TurboTax used it for one year only, ostensibly to prevent anyone from
"printing" tax returns on more than one machine. They allowed
"creating" multiple returns but not printing them. Some kind of
pirating prevention. Users didn't appreciate it and voiced their
opinions (by not buying the program).

TurboTax is for use in USA & Canada, is there an equivalent available
in the UK? There wasn't when I lived there.
JD

No - if you are unfortunate and have to fill in a tax return, it's called
Self-Assessment - obtainable from the IRS on-line. That's not an issue for
me.
I had previously Googled this query, got to a Canadian site specialising in
spyware and "back-door" reporting - seems CdillaCda11BA is borderline
spyware. I understood it to be a "cd-copy" report prog to someone, somewhere
!
Thanks for your input - I seem to have got rid of it now. Where it actually
came from, Lord knows !
Sincerely, Len

True, but I'm with Vanguard. They may have stopped using c-dilla for now,
but who knows what they'll come up with next. Clearly it's company policy
to look for ways to control customers' actions. I started using
Taxbrain.com last year, and I'm using it again this year. It's far easier
to use and hasn't caused me any trouble so far.

I don't think agree at all. I don't think it had anything to do
with wanting to "control customers' actions." I think they simply
wanted to fight software piracy, made a poor decision on how to
do it, irritated their customer base, realized it, and backed
off.

I had bought and used Turbo Tax for many years, but I didn't buy
it last year. This year I bought it again.

Might they do something like this again? Sure they might. It's in
their interest to combat piracy. But having been burned once, I
think that if they try something like this again, they'll be much
more careful not to do it in an intrusive way like Cedilla. If
that's the way they proceed, I'll stay with them; if they go back
to things like Cedilla, they will lose me as a customer.

If you're happy with it, that's fine. I don't know that product,
but I personally continue to be happy with TurboTax. It's
inexpensive, does the job, and is easy to use. Again, if they
reintroduce invasive software like cedilla, I'll certainly change
my mind, but I think it's highly unlikely that they'll do that.
Once burned, twice shy.
