I bought the above program, but when I select the songs from my own
purchased CD to put on my computer, I never see the "OK" which their manual
refers to.

Does someone else use this program and knows how to work it?

You got robbed, dude. CDex is freeware.

Well, so be it. But do you know how to work it?

THAT was my question.

As I recall (I haven't ripped a CD in a while), you:

1. fire up the program
2. put in a CD, let the program read the CD
3. click on CDDB->read from remote freedb (fills in all the ID3 tags on
your future MP3s for you)
4. hit F9 and let the program start ripping
5. when it's done, search your hard disk to find where the program put
your MP3s

That's about it. I'm using v1.70 beta 2, so it should work just like
yours. My knowledge of the program is pretty basic but it's always
worked well for me.

Bob, thanks for the feedback. It was very helpful.
Let me say the fiollwing:

1. I also have v 1.70beta2
2. I have 2 CD drives. Strangely, it reads a CD if I put it in the R/W
drive, not when it is in the plain CD read drive.
3. When I click CDDB it does not read from remote freedb, but I assume that
is because the CD is from a composer who gave it to me, but is very little
known and is German. So, I assume the CDDB database does not have him in
there.
4. I then hit F7 as suggested and it read and put the songs on the computer.
I can play them from there now, but I see they are still protected. Do I now
need to RIP them to the Samsung 2 BG player even though they say they are
protected?

Thanks a lot for your good information so far. It helps a lot.

Far as I know that's the latest version. The program doesn't seem to have been updated in quite a
while.
2. I have 2 CD drives. Strangely, it reads a CD if I put it in the R/W

Well, long as it does read from one drive consistently. Maybe the program considers that one the
first drive available so that's the one it should read.
3. When I click CDDB it does not read from remote freedb, but I assume
that is because the CD is from a composer who gave it to me, but is
very little known and is German. So, I assume the CDDB database does
not have him in there.

I've ripped fifty or so CD's, mostly obscure Brazilian/opera/classical stuff, and freedb has only failed
me once. So yeah, the composer probably isn't in there, yet. There's probably some procedure to
add him in, if you wanted, I don't know what it is, and I doubt it involves CDex, anyway.
4. I then hit F7 as suggested and it read and put the songs on the

Damn. There's an option to enable DRM in the program but I can't seem to find it at the moment. You
might want to look around and see if you can find it yourself. The MP3s that result from the ripping
and encoding process should not be protected in any way. At least mine never are. You could try
ripping them directly to your player and seeing if that works. I'll look at the program more later when I
have some time and let you know if I figure out how to turn the damn DRM off.
Thanks a lot for your good information so far. It helps a lot.

Well, like I said, I don't know a HUGE amount about the program. Once I figured out which buttons to
push to get the desired result, I quit messing with options and learning more about it. Maybe
someone who knows more can chime in.

Glad I could help some, anyway. Sorry I was annoying earlier; I obviously need to clean up my act a
bit.

Maybe uncheck all of these:

Private

When enabled, it will set the private flag in the MP3 stream.

Original

When enabled, it will set the original flag in the MP3 stream.

Copyright

When enabled, it will set the copyright flag in the MP3 stream.
