==== I agree , I just bought a LiteOn USB DVD+-RW and the software
that came with it (MyDVD) crashed my computer so bad I had to restore
, but I downloaded
CDBurnerXP Pro 3 , and it works great .==========
I wish I could report the same. I installed CDBurnerPro V.3 a couple
of times, and each time it reported there were no available burners,
althoug my LG4081B is on the supported list. The problem appeared
identical to the results provided by the commercial bundle of BHA
Gold5 and B's Clip that I got with the drive. These reported "no drive
connected" or simply wouldn't load (Clip), even though I upgraded both
the programs and the ASPI drivers.
The strange thing is that Nero Express, which DOESN'T list the drive
as supported DID detect it, although only as a CDR-CDRW. Things got
stranger when, after all the upgrading with BHA failed to make a
difference, I reinstalled Nero Express, just to see if it could write
to CDRW successfully. As soon as the system rebooted after the Nero
install, BHA Gold5 and B's Clip recognized the drive for the first
time, and Gold5 successfully wrote to a half-full DVD+RW disk.
I didn't grasp the connection immediately, and uninstalled Nero
Express, and BHA's programs stopped working again. Reinstalled Nero,
and BHA started working again.
So I thought I'd see if Nero would also activate CDBurnerXP. But when
I tried to reinstall CDBurnerXP for the third time, I got a weird
series of error messages:
"The feature you are trying to use is a network resource that is
unavailable"
(strange, since I never install anything while connected to the web or
any other network, and hadn't the two previous installs)
The installer then directed me to :
"use feature from C:\Windows\temp\isA195"
(which apparently wasn't there),
or to provide the path to "CDBurnerXP.msi"
The Browse button was disabled, although not greyed out, so I tried to
oblige by writing in the path to the setup file
"q:\freeprogs\cdr\CDBurnerXP\CDBurnerXP.exe",
but that didn't hit the spot for the installer either, so no joy.
I noticed on the previous install that the installer tried mightily to
circumvent my Quarterdeck Cleansweep Installation monitor, and
succeeded to the degree that, although CDBurnerXP got uninstalled,
it's still shown in the Windows98 Add/Remove Programs list, and when
you hit "add/remove", it thinks you want to install it and complains
that it can't find the setup program.
So, I for one, am not impressed.
