Snap,
You say your firmware was good, does that mean you have the latest update,
if there is one..?
What burning app are you using..? What is your optical drives make and model
#..?
Where did you get the ASPI detection tool from..?
j;-j

Here.....lemme Explain
I've Hp Pavillion A340n PC with P4 2.6ghz
i've sony cd-rw crx215e5
I've Firmware version 5.0F......tried to find latest than that but failed
I downloaded that ASPI thing From
http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/su...SPI-4.70&sess=no&prodkey=Windows+ASPI+Package

Then i Downloaded Sony's Diagnostic tool From
http://sony.storagesupport.com/cdrw/diagnostics.htm
That showed me following results......
[03/02/2006 11:04:58 AM] 1 log - 702 MB Blank CD-R
[03/02/2006 11:04:58 AM] 1 log - Media ID: 97.17.06
[03/02/2006 11:04:58 AM] 1 log - Testing drive: SONY CD-RW CRX215E5
(5.0F)
[03/02/2006 11:04:58 AM] 1 log - Begining Test
[03/02/2006 11:04:58 AM] 1 log - Begining CD Write
[03/02/2006 11:04:59 AM] *** err - Failed to write data to track
[03/02/2006 11:04:59 AM] *** err - edwMmcWrite10 returned the following
error: SCSI Sense - Key:5 (Illegal Request) ASC:30 ASCQ:05
[03/02/2006 11:04:59 AM] *** err - Failed to write track 01

Then i downloaded Force ASPI from
http://radified.com/ASPI/forceaspi.htm
That downgraded my ASPI to 4.6(1021)
Then with That sony diagnostic test I got SAME RESULT
I was trying to Burn CDs with recordnow! & window media player
Now i uninstalled Recordnow
Still failure with window media player
Think i Answer all ur Ques....sorry if i missed something

Looks like you have installed SCSI drivers ie.. ASPI , you need to roll back
to the IMAPI drivers included in XP.
error: SCSI Sense - Key:5 (Illegal Request) ASC:30 ASCQ:05

I use Nero and have found that their InfoTool helps to id drives, firmware,
aspi, etc..

To roll back the drivers ..
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306546/
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283658/
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/driverrollback.mspx
Use the Infotool to verify the media your drive can use, firmware version,
use it to create a report that can be cut and pasted to a post, use the ASPI
tab to verify that ASPI is "NOT" installed on your system, yellow bar at
bottom is normal for an IMAPI system..
That is what I see on my system and both my optical drives are working
great, burning CD's, DVD's, etc..

The drivers are cdrom.sys, imapi.sys, redbook.sys, these should be in the
c:\windows\system32\drivers\..folder/dir, with the storprop.dll file located
in c:\windows\system32\..folder/dir.. Those four files are in the drives
properties, under driver details, this is strait from my device
manager...Hopefully these files are still on your HD and you can reinstall
the drive...

The drivers are cdrom.sys, imapi.sys, redbook.sys, these should be in the
c:\windows\system32\drivers\..folder/dir, with the storprop.dll file located
in c:\windows\system32\..folder/dir.. Those four files are in the drives

manager...Hopefully these files are still on your HD and you can reinstall
the drive...

Those extra divers in driver details are probably from other burning apps
that you may have installed and failed to remove properly in add remove
programs, they are just not letting go, so to speak.. If the four driver
files I mentioned are in driver details and you are receiving error 39 use
the Doug Knox fix or try the original cdgone.reg fix and see if they help..
You should reinstall only one burning app and make sure it is updated or
supported, you may need to upgrade to a newer version or change burning apps
completely.. I use Nero 5.5.10.56 and it adds extra drivers to driver
details, they are InCDPass.sys and incdrm.sys..That's the only burning app I
use or need for CD's or DVD's..
The Nero site for their free trial version seems to be down for some reason,
they say to check back later..?

Sorry, Snap, I didn't see this until now.. I have my IMAPI service set to
manual..
The manual setting means it will start if needed or you turn on the settings
through the record tab in the drives properties, set it to manual and uncheck
the box in the recording tab if you are using a third party burning app..If
you want to use the inbuilt CD Wiz you would need to set the IMAPI service to
automatic and on the recording tab in the drives properties, check the box to
enable CD recording on the drive..

I downloaded that ASPI thing From
http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/su...SPI-4.70&sess=no&prodkey=Windows+ASPI+Package

Then i Downloaded Sony's Diagnostic tool From
http://sony.storagesupport.com/cdrw/diagnostics.htm
That showed me following results......
[03/02/2006 11:04:58 AM] 1 log - 702 MB Blank CD-R

error: SCSI Sense - Key:5 (Illegal Request) ASC:30 ASCQ:05

Then i downloaded Force ASPI from

That downgraded my ASPI to 4.6(1021)
Then with That sony diagnostic test I got SAME RESULT

Use the Infotool to verify the media your drive can use, firmware version,
use it to create a report that can be cut and pasted to a post, use the ASPI
tab to verify that ASPI is "NOT" installed on your system, yellow bar at
bottom is normal for an IMAPI system..
That is what I see on my system and both my optical drives are working
great, burning CD's, DVD's, etc..

Ok, Snap, first of all a blank CD-R that is blank right out of the package in
my computer, properties, would show what you described ie.. the blue disk..
When I put in any blank media be it CD-R/RW or DVD-R/RW.. I always get an
error window, "drive X is not accessible, Incorrect function", then I just
click the OK button.. I then use my Nero to write to the disk, if it is a CD,
I set it to CD mode, If it is DVD, I set it to DVD mode..
See this link and read about the third party burning software that is
recommended, try and conform.. http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.php
The reality is that you can't just use any old freebie burning app out there
or multiple burning apps without confusing XP and or yourself.. You need to
make sure you understand how the burning app works you are trying to use and
the procedures you need to follow in order to write to a CD.. So look here
for help with Deepburner http://deepburner.com/forum/ or look into their FAQ
and online documentation..http://deepburner.com/
Remember, to disable the CD Wiz, install only Deepburner, make sure you
understand how it works, follow instructions etc.. The trouble with freebie
burning apps is there are a lot out there and people like to try them out,
sometimes they don't uninstall them properly or they try and use one burning
app for this reason and one for that reason, on and on, this can cause
problems for the OS.. It's really your call..

Hey jaymon thx for those links......that Doug Knox thing worked to remove
those unwanted files from driver detail list....& still recognizes it as a
Writable drive
But after all that i tried to burn cd it failed
when ever i put blank cd in....open my computer>>>single click on cd-r icon
(when this drive is empty drives name is CD-RW.....when i insert blank disc
it shows up CD-R.....this means it recognize the disk)....so when i click on
it>>>>on the left panel in detail section it shows me
Free space 0 bytes.....Total size 0 bytes.....in cd properties.....it shows
me Blue disk...which means its full
So im there where i started on 2/27/06
The Nero thing Recognize it as a blank cd with 79mins some seconds of
recording time
Then i downloaded DEEPBURNER from deepburner.com....freeware cd writing
program
it intialize the burner but fails with cd writing process with error code
Writer Error
SO i was Frustrated
I formatted my disk
Reinstalled Windows
Still Having Problem....isn't it funny.....the exactly same problem.....lolz
So wat U suggest to CHeck If my Drive is faulty???????????

The Nero site for their free trial version seems to be down for some reason,
they say to check back later..?

i renamed those drivers....restarted my pc.......now im just able to c those
devices in device manager with Yellow Asertic.....from explorer they r missing
By devices i mean my dvd drive & the problem drive
In those devices properties im seeing following message
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be
corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
So wat u suggest no........i know thats wat not u suggested.....but i tried
now im seeing just those 4 files in driver details
i Can rename them again......but waiting for ur suggestion
but im gonna rename them in the mean time.....lolz

:

The drivers are cdrom.sys, imapi.sys, redbook.sys, these should be in the
c:\windows\system32\drivers\..folder/dir, with the storprop.dll file located
in c:\windows\system32\..folder/dir.. Those four files are in the drives
properties, under driver details, this is strait from my device
manager...Hopefully these files are still on your HD and you can reinstall
the drive...

:

Hey jaymon
I'll uninstall that ASPI by simply Deleating those files.....but theres not
any driver to rollback as said in those links
So for now just looking for that IMAPI thing
thx

:

Snap,

To roll back the drivers ..
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306546/
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283658/
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/driverrollback.mspx
Use the Infotool to verify the media your drive can use, firmware version,
use it to create a report that can be cut and pasted to a post, use the ASPI
tab to verify that ASPI is "NOT" installed on your system, yellow bar at
bottom is normal for an IMAPI system..
That is what I see on my system and both my optical drives are working
great, burning CD's, DVD's, etc..

:

Hey Jaymon,
That link is same for the firmware
How to roll back to the IMAPI
& I installed that Nero tool ......wat i've to detect with that tool

:

Looks like you have installed SCSI drivers ie.. ASPI , you need to roll back
to the IMAPI drivers included in XP.
error: SCSI Sense - Key:5 (Illegal Request) ASC:30 ASCQ:05
[03/02/2006 11:04:59 AM] *** err - Failed to write track 01

Did you get the firmware update from here..?
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...product=374776&dlc=en&softwareitem=pv-21415-2

I use Nero and have found that their InfoTool helps to id drives, firmware,
aspi, etc..
http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/eng/Info_Tool.html
Hope this can help..

:

Here.....lemme Explain
I've Hp Pavillion A340n PC with P4 2.6ghz
i've sony cd-rw crx215e5
I've Firmware version 5.0F......tried to find latest than that but failed
I downloaded that ASPI thing From
http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/su...SPI-4.70&sess=no&prodkey=Windows+ASPI+Package

Then i Downloaded Sony's Diagnostic tool From
http://sony.storagesupport.com/cdrw/diagnostics.htm
That showed me following results......
[03/02/2006 11:04:58 AM] 1 log - 702 MB Blank CD-R
[03/02/2006 11:04:58 AM] 1 log - Media ID: 97.17.06
[03/02/2006 11:04:58 AM] 1 log - Testing drive: SONY CD-RW CRX215E5
(5.0F)
[03/02/2006 11:04:58 AM] 1 log - Begining Test
[03/02/2006 11:04:58 AM] 1 log - Begining CD Write
[03/02/2006 11:04:59 AM] *** err - Failed to write data to track
[03/02/2006 11:04:59 AM] *** err - edwMmcWrite10 returned the following
error: SCSI Sense - Key:5 (Illegal Request) ASC:30 ASCQ:05
[03/02/2006 11:04:59 AM] *** err - Failed to write track 01

Then i downloaded Force ASPI from
http://radified.com/ASPI/forceaspi.htm
That downgraded my ASPI to 4.6(1021)
Then with That sony diagnostic test I got SAME RESULT
I was trying to Burn CDs with recordnow! & window media player
Now i uninstalled Recordnow
Still failure with window media player
Think i Answer all ur Ques....sorry if i missed something

:

Snap,
You say your firmware was good, does that mean you have the latest update,
if there is one..?
What burning app are you using..? What is your optical drives make and model
#..?
Where did you get the ASPI detection tool from..?
j;-j

:

Hey jaymon those links 're good but didnt help.....but i surfed the web &
found two things
1) Firmware detection tool.......with that i found my firmware was good
2)ASPI detection tool.....guess wat my ASPI was missing.....reinstalled it
now i was able to c again blank cds
i tried to write one but failed.......& now theres again same
problem......stuck on it !!
