cd-writer and dvd rom drives

After installing Windows XP { had Windows Me } my cd and
dvd will not work. I cannot even find the cd-writer
listed any where. Does anyone know what I can to do to
get them back and run on my computer now that I upgraded
to XP I do not have a disk to reinstall the cd or dvd.
 
That should be code 39. neither should show in "My Computer". You sure you
show the DVD? If you are new to XP or Pro, you need to know these sites.
