Hi,
I'm experiencing problems with my new TEAC CD-W552E. It
doesn't read any type of CD. It is connected properly as
a master on the secondary IDE channel(no other devices on
this channel). It is listed in the device manager list
and detected by the BIOS and the computer seems to
recognizes it. So I can't see what the problem can be,
but it still doesn't work. I'm using Windows XP Home
edition. Can anyone help...?

was this the original drive on this system or is it a new one...did you remove the old drivers
did you install new drivers and check vendor site for updates? does the device show up in hardwar
manager with no errors? have you tried rebooting with a cd in the drawer to see if it is recognized at that point? does the drive letter show up in expolorer? this basic problem seems to exist in xp home and xp pro. I have not seen a fix from MS for this or the disappearing cd drive...
