Could someone make a suggestion regarding a specific model/brand of CD RW that
they have been happy with.

I agree with Lite-On. I replaced a 16/10/32 Plextor with a 52/24/52 Lite-On
and have yet to have the first problem with it. Even better, it was less than
$45 shipped from Newegg! :-)

LG (Lucky Goldstar I believe) is another brand that I have had excellent
luck with. I have two different models and both have never made a coaster.

I agree insomuch as my old standard CD drive is an LG and near 4 years
old and still going strong. If that's anything to go by then their
CDR/W drives should be good :)

Lite-On. My 52x24x52x came with Nero.
It features Nero Express which makes burning CDs a snap.

I was planning on the Lite-On but the recent reviews on neoseeker.com of the
latest Lite-On drive was less than stellar.

I've used Lite-On drives ever since learning about them here several
years ago. Seldom was a Lite-On the fastest nor the quietest in the
reviews. But users found them to be rock solid and very well priced
compared to their competition. Considering whatever unit you purchase
will be obsolete before you install it that makes reliability and
pricing more prominent than the other features. At least for me.

I'm not sure if the issue is the same one I'm thinking of, but the
issue with media compatibility was basically fixed by updating to a
newer or older firmware. It seems that there was one particular
firmware version out there that had some compatibility problems with
some brands of CDR media. I think this only involved 40x drives and
up.

Of course, my own recommendation would be an LG drive. Pricewise,
they're on par with LiteON's drives, as well as performance. The
thing I like best is that the LG drives do seem to have a better parts
fit, and are much quieter.

You can sometimes get a LiteOn at a signficant discount, as it seems
to be the drive that's commonly rebadged and sold (+rebate) at
electronics superstores.
