Hey,

Me bird wants a cd writer in her computer. Ive got the liteon 52x32x52 in my machine and its a damn good drive. Was just gonna get that as its just under £20 now which is a bargain. Just wondered if anyone had any major reasons to object?

Also, its the same price from ebuyer and overclockers. Was gonna go for overclockers??

Cheers.

Oh, quite contra ... I only use Lite-On. :D

My first CD-RW was a liteon, never failed me, which is a good sign. And seeing as its so cheap you have nothing much to loose.

OUt of Ebuyer and Overclockers, i would probably choose overclockers, as ive ordered about 20 seperate times from there and havent been let down yet. Though ive only ordered off ebuyer 3-4 times, they havent let me down yet either.

eBuyer are so contraversially talked about.

I was a bit hesitant when using them, but ordered about 5 times now (got one arriving tomorrow too) and i have never beenlet down.

Always done a damn fine job.

BUT

Never sent anything back yet either!

At that price it is difficult to argue, however, if you can get a dvd burner for a little more, do consider that, that is sort of future proofing it to some extent. Just my opinion, others may differ :)

Mucks,

Now that is what I call a fantastic bargain!

Thanks for suggesting that. My response above was incomplete and your post helped a lot ;)

Cheers boys, can always count on you lot! :-) She isnt really interested in the dvd side of things, a cd writer is fine. Went to buy from overclockers and they were gonna charge 8.25 delivery, which bumped the price up to about 26 quid, so didnt bother. Will just visit my friendly local computer shop (which i worked in for 8 years) as they give me stuff cost price, woohoo!!

As long as everyone agrees that liteon are good, i like them myself, was just wondering if there were any horror stories! As long as mucks "the wise old owl" likes them then that good enough for me!!

If you have that luxury of buying at cost price you could consider Plextor as well which is the best all round (including durability). I have been using them since almost 5 years now.

Mucks I know would actually be smiling at my suggestion if he is reading this. He too loves Plextor and so does Flops.

Yeah, they only stock top end stuff, its the type of shop it was a joy to work for, none of this cowboy pile em high sell em cheap refuse to take them back crap. They used to do plextor but actually mainly stock liteon now. Although they did love the plextor scsi drives from the good old days! lol. When i first started there in 95 we sold 4Mb or RAM for £120 + vat. I can still remember that makes £141. hehe. Anyway, enough of that, im off to bed.

Yep, buy it. It works well for you, it'll work well for her.

If she only wants to burn CD's and not DVD's, it seems just the ticket.

It's what I'd go for - bargain price.

I'm saying this despite the fact that within the last 3 or 4 years I've bought five Liteon Optical drives, 3 of which died on me out of warranty.

I do, however, still have 2 x 32 X Liteon CDRW's working just fine 2 or 3 years down the line.

Every manufacturer has duff batches now and again, it's down to the factory that produces them most of the time anyway.

Of course Plextor is better. Of course a DVDRW is a better option.

But. To burn CD's for twenty quid you can't really do much better. Go for it :)
