Upgraded to Windows XP from Windows 98. Can not get my
CDRW to recognixe a disk. Check CDRW in Device Manager,
device is working properly. I have booted up on a
Windows boot disk and it will read information from the
disk from a MSDOS prompt.

If the error on the device manager was Error Code 39 then there is a simple
regedit fix that will resolve your problem.

No I don't have EZCD Creator. I am using Nero, but when
I installed XP I formatted my hardware loaded Win98 and
loaded the upgrade.

Hi,

You need package writing software to recongnize CD/RW disk.
Have you installed InCD or similar softwares?

Peter

You might want to try Alex's article anyway. The correct procedure for a
clean install would have been to boot direct with the XP Upgrade CD and
format the drive... when it asks for the previous qualifying product, you
simply swap CDs, point XP to the 98 CD and it will look at it and confirm
you do have the previous product. Then swap CDs back and the installation
of XP will continue.

The previous product never has to be installed first.

An out-of-the-box installation WinXP already contains support to read and
write CD-RW.
