I just bought a new cdrw (memorex 52x24x52) drive
yesterday, hooked it up and began buring an audio cd like
i have done a hundred times. only this time after i was
done i put it in my stereo and began to play it, and it
would stop on track 3, and skip. i thought there was
something wrong with my stereo so i put it in my stand
alone dvd player and it worked fine, i put it in my
cd/dvd drive in my computer and it didnt work either. so
i tried buring it a second, third and a fourth time and
the same thing happens. i have tried using wmp 9 and the
samthing happens

i already updated roxio ECDC platinum and downloaded a
new driver for the new cd/rw drive. does anyone out there
now how to fix this or know what im doing wrong.

thanks chris

Were you using different media this time? Perhaps the new faster drive is
writing to your old media too fast?
Try one at a slower write speed. I read somewhere that at todays high speeds
the media you use is under all sorts of stresses.

Your quite right. A quick perusal down a listing of various media in a
popular PC catalogue only reveals one vendor, TDK, that sells one ten pack
of CD-R's rated at 52x.
Most Memorex CD-R media is rated at 48x and Memorex CD-RW are only rated at
4X to10x, I pick on Memorex as that's the drive you purchased, many other
vendors only rate their CD-RW media at 1x to 4x. If your buying those huge
spindles of CD-R media your going to be lucky if the packaging states 32x as
the top burn speed.
Installing a 52x CD-RW drive in a machine that may not be capable of feeding
data to that drive fast enough is also going to cause problems with buffer
underruns at those high speeds. Bigger is not always better and one should
try and match a CD-RW drive to the computer processor, bus speed, amount of
RAM etc.
I'm not sure roxio ECDC platinum supports changing the burn speed as I don't
use it but somewhere in there it must or nobody would buy it.
