I have a Lite-On LTC-4816H CD-RW/DVD which will only read
a CD, CD-R or CD-RW if it was inserted before Windows XP
starts up. IOW, if I place a CD in the drive then
restart, it functions normally (ie - can browse it in
MyComputer, can execute/install, etc). If I then change
the CD, the new CD won't be recognized at all (until I
restart - then the new CD is ok). VERY ANNOYING.

I am running SP1 with all critical updates and latest
drivers installed. Other S/W of note is Symantec AV+FW
and Nero 5.

Other Key HW : ASUS A7N8X-E, 80gb Hitachi SATA HDD, IBM
60gb IDE HDD

Any help would be appreciated!

It might be Nero 5. I think I have 5.5 on two XP computers, but on a
third I was forced to Nero 6 to make my CD drive work at all since it
was a newer drive than Nero has references for. Check with Nero for the
latest updates. If this is a new drive, have you correctly physically
installed it as cable select, etc?
