I have the exact same problem with the exact same CD
burner, but in Windows 2000. I've been working on this for
days and I am almost positive that there has been a change
in the registry setting and Windows does not recognize the
device as a burner, but as a CDROM. The solution lies in
figuring out what the setting SHOULD be in the registry
for the CD-RW. My burner worked fine for months and now it
will read CDs with files but won't recognize a blank CD in
Windows Explorer. The BIOS see the device and so does
Windows, but not as a burner. I am pretty sure that this
change has occurred as a result of an update of Windows
files (or the last service pack). I have change removed
and reinstalled drivers/ device, changed the IDE cable,
changed the burner and recently reinstalled the o/s and I
still have the same problem. The only thing I have on
there is an update of all the latest Windows files and
service packs and Norton. Any ideas of suggestions would
be greatly appreciated!
