I can't open the CD-RW drive - the light on the drive
keeps flashing. Problem is recent. Also can't eject by
right-clicking on the drive in Explorer. There doesn't
appear to be a CD in the drive.

Use device manager to delete the drive. Uninstall your
burning software. Re-boot, PnP will reinstall the drive.

Reinstall your burning software.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't work. Light is
still flashing, when I reinstalled the burner software,
it said it couldn't find a device.

Any other ideas?

Did you do ALL these things in that order?

I'd first check to make sure there isn't a bad disc in
the drive causing it to lock up. Most drives have a
small hole that you can insert a straightened paperclip
into to cause the tray to be lose enough to pull out the
rest of the way.
If there is no disc in there causing this issue, I would
try doing a firmware update on it, perhaps the drives
firmware got corrupted.
If this does not work, hopefully the drive is under
warantee.

Yes, I did. When I rebooted, disk light was still
flashing, but PnP did reinstall the drive.
