CD RW Drive Disappeared

I have a cd rw and a cdrom drive installed and working
correctly since i bought my PC since day 1.

Suddenly a week back, the cd rw drive stopped working. I
was buring a cd with easy cd creator. the cd got created
and the drive never opened. I could'nt see the drive in my
computer too. Not in the Device manager, even after reboot.
The cdrom is the master and cdrw was slave. i tried
swapping the 2 drives. Still the CDrom which is now in the
slave works but the cd rw does'nt work.

i bought a new cd rw drive to replace the old one. This
one does'nt work too??????

Can anyone please help me with this problem?

I have had the same problem over the last few days and it

is still not working.My CD rw will read cd's but will not
write any.

I have had 2 new cd rw's in 2 days with the same problem.

Any solution would be appreciated.

1. Does the motherboard bios see the drive? If it does not then there is a
problem with the drive (since you had already tried the swap).
2. If it does, did you recently install some piece of software such as
Roxio's new version. This could be the problem. This requires an edit to
the registry. Find out what the error code is in the event viewer. Type
the error code in the Microsoft update knowledge base, and it will tell you
what to do.
3. Even if you did not install a new piece of software, check the event
viewer for any error codes and how to fix them in Microsoft's knowledge
base.

I have windows 2000 OS installed. I am not able to go
into the BIOS.
Can u pls tell me how to check BIOS setting to see if the
Drive is detected there?

Try pressing the DEL key shortly after starting your computer. Press
this key several times (up until it either works or until Windows 2000
starts to load.) If the DEL key doesn't do it then restart the
computer and try it again using the F2 key. One of these two keys are
usually the correct one to enter the BIOS. If not then post what model
and make the computer and motherboard are.

Once you get to the BIOS screens, the first sub-screen usually has the
basic system elements listed. There should be a hard drive shown with
it's characteristics. Right after that should be your CD RW drive with
it's characteristics. If it's there, then Windows 2000 should have
seen it while starting the operating system.
