CD/RW, Device Manager recognition problems

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 running Windows XP (home),
and that came with a Lite-On LTR24102m CD/RW. Recently
the drive refuses to write or recognise blank CDs. I've
tried updating the firmware of the drive, updating and
renstalling my CD writing software, clearing the NVRAM,
etc. I'm beaten! I can't work out why the drive refuses
to work properly. The only thing I've noticed is that in
Device manager the drive is displayed as a CD-ROM device
and not a CD/RW. I've tried deleting the driver in device
manager and letting it reinstall on reboot. - The driver
is built in to XP and, as the drive is used exclusively
by Dell, I can't find any other drivers on the net. Does
anybody know of a solution to my problem. Perhaps there's
a registry fix I can apply?

Please send me a note if you think you can help
[[email protected]]. Any suggestions would be
gratefully received.

Thanks in advance

I have had similar issues, first make sure your BIOS
recognizes the drive as a CDRW. If it does, or you can't
tell, it is prbly a WINXP issue rather than a hardware
problem. If it does not, try switching the master drive
to the slave and vice versa.(WARNING: THIS VOIDS YOUR
WARRANTY). If you would rather save your warranty (or if
its a laptop) then you should try calling Dell as they
tend to have excellent customer service.
As for drivers, you did everything I would have tried.
Sorry :-|
