I have recently moved from W98 to XP-Pro. Not a step in
the right direction I fear. My reliable old CDs a DVD
reader and a CD-RW (Liteon LTR-40125S which appears as
a "SCSI" device) have changed drive letters (not a
problem) but now my system freezes (no CTRL-ALT-Del)
whenever I load an audio disc or blank CD-R or CD-RW.
Previuosly formatted data CDs are OK. What the **** has
Microsoft done this time. My CD-RW is attached to a
Promise Ultra100 board (appears as a SCSI controller). I
have tried all sorts and loaded what XP specific drivers
are available from mfrs sites.
Is it possible I have to remove the SCSI device and re-
install after booting from XP Cd?
I love the way XP leaves you in the dark....passes the
time like an old fashioned jigsaw puzzle....

Initially, no, I have since downloaded some drivers and
Bios for Promise but XP seems to ignore the drivers and
sticks with what it has got should I uninstall the device
drivers for the Ultra100?
Thanks for your reply and best wishes for 2004.

All is now well again. I have downloaded and installed the
LATEST driver from Promise.com. Problem solved, thanks.
