I have suddenly lost my ability to write to the CD-RW drive (D) on my Dell
2300.

I tried the registry fix as outlined in previous messages
(KBID316529/Procedure 256986) to no avail.

These steps did not help solve my problem.

I have also reloaded the ROXIO CD rpovided by Dell with negative results.

hat else could have caused my loss of capabilty in writing to the CD_RW
drive. I was able to copy pictures from my "C" drive to the "D" drive until
early November.

Thanks

If you were able to do this in early November, you're probably in luck to try
a System Restore. For there you can go back up to 90 days and may be able
to restore your System to when it was functioning correctly. But, have you
installed any programs or maybe SP2 since that date?
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore.

Are you getting "bad block" errors in event viewer? Lasers have been known to go bad.

Cannot restore to an earlier date in November, not sure why but it tells me
that the restore failed.

I have Roxio 5.2 from Dell.

Any other suggestions.

Thanks

Easy CD Creator 5 causes a host of problems with Windows XP. You really
should upgrade to version 6 at least. The current version - known as Easy
Media Creator - is version 7, so you may have a hard time finding version 6
in stores. On the other hand, if you do find version 6, it's likely to be
mighty inexpensive. Easy Media Creator (version 7) is heavily discounted and
rebated, and widely available for around $40. Either way, it's really not
worthwhile to be dealing with version 5 problems.

You can update the Basic Roxio Easy CD Creator to version 5.3.5.10 at:
