CD-RW acts like CR-R

I am trying to save photos to a CD-RW. I was
specifically instructed not to "lock" the files, so that
the person receiving the CD will be able to go in and
change the file names. However, all the files I burned
to the CD-RW are now "read-only", even though the
originals were not. I decided to try to erase the CD-RW
and start over, but according to XP help, there should be
a "Erase CD-RW" option--and there isn't. I am so
confused!

If you used XP (Copy to CD command) there is no difference between copying
to a CD-R and a CD-RW except that you can erase all the files (no just one
or a few) from a CD-RW and start using this CD-RW again. There is no such
thing as "Don't lock the files" and all files are read only and there is no
renaming option.
How were you instructed to "Don't lock the files?
You may have used some other software to copy to this CD-RW and XP does not
recognize it as XP made and therefore does not give you the option of "Erase
CD-RW" but you can still open all the files on it. Do you have something
like Roxio Easy CD Creator on your Computer, maybe it took over when you
copied. Have you tried selecting one file and then delete? If this works,
select all the files and delete.

Well, to answer one of my own questions... I discovered
that if I right-click on the CD-R drive in question,
select properties, select the "Recording" tab, and then
change the recording speed, the option to erase the CD-RW
appears! This works no matter what I change the
recording speed from or to! Very interesting. Obviously
an XP glitch of some sort.

Here are the exact instructions I received regarding
not "locking" the files:

"IF SAVING TO CD ROM: If you are saving your images to CD
ROM and sending to our address, please do not lock the CD
so that we can easily change the file name to correspond
to the PhotoAlert.com image order number."

I have come to the conclusion that they don't know what
they are talking about!
