My CD ROM will play games but not audio CDs. What's
wrong? I'm using Easy CD Creator version 6. Windows media
player doesn't work with the drive either. My CD RW
drive doe splay audio CDs.

There is an internal audio cable that connects to the back of the drive and
runs to the input on your sound card, so your CD-RW is probably connected up
while your other CD-ROM is not. You may be able to bypass this analog output
and play CD Audio directly through the data cable. Go to the control panel,
Sounds and Audio Devices, and click the hardware tab. Select your CD-ROM
from the list and click properties. Now there should be a check box that
says "Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM device. Now you should be able
to hear audio from your CD. If this option is not there or checking it still
does not work the drive probably doesn't support it. In that case you can
just open up your PC case and switch the analog audio cable from your CD-RW
to your CD-ROM (or add a second cable if your sound card has another input).
Many drives also have a digital output on the back as well as an analog, so
if your soundcard has an internal SPDIF connector you may be able to use
this (if you can find a cable for it).
