Hi,
I am running Vista on a Gateway laptop. I have Norton 360 for my antivirus
(wouldn't recommend it). The problem is that about once a week when I go to
use the cd rom I get the error 10 message saying it can't find the device. I
have to go in to the registry and edit it to remove "upper filters", whatever
that is. As soon as I do that and reboot it's fine for a week or so. Why
does the upper filter item keep reappearing and how can I stop it. Any ideas?
Thanks, Rick

I'd remove the Norton software and see if the problem goes away. The problem
with that entry is from the use of a third party driver file for the optical
drive. Either it gets rewritten by the software, or it's getting detected as
missing and being replaced.
