CD-ROM reading problem

When i try to read or copy these .avi files I have on a
burned cd, my computer freezes for 3 minutes and
unfreezes for 5 seconds in regular intervals. Why does
my computer freeze and how can i fix this?

BTW, i have the latest windows XP updates.
 
Could be a bad disc, or possibly a bad drive... Can the drive read other
discs OK? Does the disc in question read in other drives OK?
