I have tried Nero 6 and Roxio 5 but on both programs the
cd-rom is not recognized. When I insert a disc the cd-rom
acts normal by reading and so forth, but the recording
software will not pick up on it. Anyone got any ideas.

Easy CD and Nero will not work with CDROM drives. You need a CDR/RW
drive!
What drive do you have?

I was having, what sounds like, the same problem. I could install and read cd's no problem, but it wouldn't recognize blank cd's. Uninstalled, reinstalled, no change

Finally, I went to www.snapfiles.com, and downloaded cdburner xp pro. Works just fine now. I don't know if it was a driver problem, some problem with a Roxio file, or what. But I can burn any cd I want to now. It was, apparently, a software issue, not a hardware one

Hope this helps
