I have xp home edition and somehow it inadvertantly
deleted my drivers for both cd roms. I've tried go to
driver sites, and called gateway (no help)I am a victim
of the easycd creator issue. anyone know how to get
driver information back. I even went into dos prompt to
see if the d & e drives are recognized but they are not.

Hello,

Download the newest upgrade for easy cd creator and your
problem should be solved. Either that or remove the direct
cd service. To do this click on start-run-msconfig, then
click on the services tab and disable direct cd. You will
also have to click on the startup tab and disable it from
there. Upon reboot your drives should show up again.. Let
me know if it helps!

Thanks for the quick response. As for the problem, I no
longer have direct cd on the computer and it is not in
the msconfig info so I am not able to disable it. I have
not had any success with upgrading cd creator as they do
not seem to have an xp compatable driver. thanks anyway.
If you think of anything else, let me know...

What version of ezcd are you trying to update? Versions 5.0 basic and
platinum can be updated to 5.3 with the patch. Roxio has a user
forum.....you might want to check it out.

Are the drives stiill recognized during BIOS start up? (That is, is the
hardware still running properly?)

(I'm not familiar with Gateway 2000 machines. Some appliance PC makers don't
display much information in the BIOS settings; I hope that Gateway is not
like that.)

If you think the hardware is still doing its stuff, see:

"CD-ROM Drive or DVD-ROM Drive Missing After You Install Windows XP"

(You can get this problem without installing XP as an upograde over an older
OS. I think that a Roxio Easy CD Creator update can do it.)

If you don't care to manually edit the Registry, try a patch:

Nearly all removable-media drives on the IDE controllers use Windows
drivers; looking for drivers from the manuafacturer is probably a waste of
time. (Most manufacturers seem to not even provide real-mode DOS drivers any
more.)

Good luck.
