I am currently running Windows XP home on an athlon
machine. Recently the computer will not recognize any
cds or dvds when loaded in the drive unless I first
reboot the computer, then the disks are recognized
without a problem. The disk drives are present under "my
computer" and I have uninstalled the drives and
reinstalled them which did not correct the problem. I
have the same issue with my digital camera in that I have
to reboot the computer with the camera attached before it
recognizes the storage card in the camera. I am also
having problems with my floppy drive where it always
wants to format disks that are already formatted. All of
these items were running fine some time ago and I have
not added any new hardware to the computer, the only
thing I have done is to install windows updates and other
software.

Please help!

Ahhh, I'm not the only one:o)

I've got this problem on a fairly new laptop. The best
the support team (PC World) could offer was to iether
delete and re-install the CD drive, that didnt work. The
other idea they had was to re-install windows. This
problem has occured after some MS Windows updates!!

So any help resolving this issue will be most welcome.

Copy of a reply on another thread. Probably posted there
cos my heads off this planet at the moment, full of FLU:o(

:
Had a long chat with MS support this afternoon:o))

It seems the answer to the problem is not the patch!

Well at least my problem was'nt. It was one of the
drivers in the startup group, the one for a Belkin Flash
Drive. As soon as we disabled the driver the CD drive
started working properly:-))))

If needed, go to Start, Run, msconfig and then the tab
for startup. From there disable all the drivers and do a
reboot, check the drive, enable a driver, reboot etc
routine to find the one thats causing the problem.
