Hmmm...
I hope that my suggestions are fruitful for you, eventually. I hope I am
not adding to your frustration.
It may amuse you to know that there's a whole website devoted to this kind
of annoyance... in fact, it's
www.annoyances.org and your problem is listed,
along with floppy drive versions of the same thing.
Even though it may not be a "name brand", the brand is important... Surely
there are drivers for it, but without knowing what brand (even a generic
one). You won't be able to search for those drivers. So... here's what you
can do to try to find out.
1) Click START/then mouse-over /"All Programs"/Accessories/System Tools/ and
click System Information
2) Then click the [+] next to Components. Click CD-ROM. Data will
populate on the right.
This is summary data for your DVD/CD-ROM devices... you could actually begin
to seek your drivers by putting in the NAME (spell carefully) into a Google
search
http://www.google.ca/advanced_search?hl=en. Put the name listed in
the search field and the separate word "drivers" (without the quotes). You
may find what you need in just a click or two.
3) If none of the above works.... There are some very good programs
available for free on the net that will tell you everything you ever thought
you wanted to know about your machine, and what is inside. My favorite one,
is
http://www.aida32.hu/aida-download.php?bit=32 It is absolutely amazing.
It will tell you the manufacturer of your Devices, and even usually supplies
a URL to their websites.... it is really an astoundingly helpful program.
It does NOT spy your system, or send you advertisements.
Best of luck,
