I have a laptop running Windows XP Professional. The CD-
ROM fails to recognize a CD when installed. However, if
I place a CD in the drive and restart the computer, the
system recognizes the CD. But, once I place another CD
in the drive, Windows fails to recognize the CD.

I can boot from the CD and I've already formatted and
reinstalled the OS, however, the problem persists. Does
anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Sounds like the disc notification for removable discs is not working.
In these situations, use a Software Eject by right clicking the CD
icon and select Eject from pop up window before inserting a new disc!
