I've updated from Windows 98 to XP. I now cannot access
my cd rom at all. I tried to go back to WIndows 98, but
no programs will run and I cannot install anything. The
computer jump right to the floppy disc drive and states
there is nothing in the the drive. The cd rom is labeled
on the computer as M drive and it says it has the most
updated driver for it, but again, it won't actually run
anything from that drive. It was also connected to the
internet via wireless router, but now that won't work
either, so I do not have access to the internet on that
computer. Any suggestions??

Have you tried reformatting and then reinstalling 98? Whatever is wrong,
you have a busted setup, you can't simply start 98 from where you left off,
you must start over from scratch:
Assuming you have a
98 boot floppy, boot with that. At the prompt, type fdisk and press enter,
delete the non-dos partition, create a primary dos partition, set it active
and exit.

If it says you have no non-dos partition your system is still fat32, delete
the primary DOS Partition, create a new one, set it active and exit fdisk,
reboot the system with 98 floppy in the drive and at the prompt type format
C: and press enter. Once format is
complete, change to your CD-ROM drive and with the 98 CD in the drive,
type setup, press enter and follow the screens.

If you don't have 98 boot disk with CD-ROM support, visit www.bootdisk.com.
Then, once you have your system as it was, do as I suggested in my previous
post.
