I just reformatted my computer with it's original Windows
98 software (I'm giving it to my kids). I then used a
Windows XP upgrade for home. I am now unable to access
my cd/dvd drive. It won't read any discs or allow me to
install anything on it. When I tried to update the
drive, it said it was updated to the most current. Yet
it says also that it is unaccessible. I can't connect to
the internet to install the printer, can't download
programs....nothing at all. It jumps right to the Floppy
drive and won't even recognize the cd/dvd. What can I
do??? I've been all over Microsfot support and I can't
find a solution.

Go back to Windows 98, exactly has you had it before you upgraded, then
while at the 98 desktop, place the XP CD in the drive, when setup screen
appears, select "Check System Compatibility," the report it generates may
give a clue as to the source of some of the issues.

But I can't get anything to run AT ALL. It won't read or
run any discs or dvd's. I think I'm screwed. Thanks for
the idea though. Any more suggestions?? My brain is so
fried. I keep trying just one last thing and that's been
since this morning. It's turned into 30 more last
tries.
