Hello there,

I recently bought a new graphics card (Geforce 4) and a new power supply
(400w) for my PC but since I have installed them my PC is unable to detect
my two cd-rom drives. The cd-rom drives can open and close but when I go
into "My Computer" they don't appear to be there. To fix it I tried taking
out the wires in the back of them (from the power supply) and putting them
back. I also tried swapping them around to which they started working again
but only for a couple of days and then they became undetected again. I have
now done this several times and it's getting annoying.

What could the problem be?

Regards

What make/model power supply?

What else is in the system, like hard drives, processor?

Have you check the BIOS "health monitor" (or similarly named) setion
for voltage readings, and/or a windows utility, or perhaps you have a
voltage meter you can use?

Can we assume that these two CDROM drives were configured exactly the
same after addtion of the video card and PSU replacement?

Is there any chance you might've damaged the IDE cables or they aren't
fully insered into the motherboard, perhaps became dislodged (might be
more likely with one of those extra-long GF4 TI4400 or higer video
cards).
