My CD player has disappeared. The Error msg is "Code 19" - Windows cannot
start this hardware device because configuration information in the registry
is damaged or incomplete. Can I fix this?

To resolve your issue, follow these steps:

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
[Start > Run and type: REGEDIT , and hit enter]

2. Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

3. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.

4. Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

5. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.

6. Quit Registry Editor.NOTE: After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value,
if you notice lost functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording software, you may need
to reinstall that software. If the problem recurs, consult with the software vendor for assistance.

7. Restart your computer.

I tried it with great hope, but it didn't work. I still get the Code 19,
missing or damaged information in the registry. I have also uninstalled and
re-installed it, purchased an external drive (with the same results) and
searched for new drivers to download (from microsoft and Samsung-mfg) with no
luck. Thanks for your help.

Well, evidently I deleted the wrong things ( I removed the folders '0000 and
0001') oops! But nothing happened and now I went back and found only the
lower filter, deleted it and the CD drive has returned and is functioning!
Thanks much.

Hi kathie,

I had the same problem on my laptop years ago, i am afraid that u have to re
install the operating system unless u have fix registry software can solve
this peoblem (i doubt)

ciao

I found this a successful solution after trying to burn a cd. Just make sure
to log on as an administrator first or windows (vista) won't let you do it...

Thank You so much Carey for helping me solve my computer problems, i was
having the same problem Kathie was having (code 19) and your resolution
helped me fix it Quickly and Easily.

Thank you again, you really dont know how much this means to me after trying
by myself for weeks and weeks, THANKS!

Well, I have followed this thread across a number of boards, and have tried
all the registry fixes related to deleting the upper and lower limits.
However, I still get the same error message. Any other ideas?

Thanks for any suggestions!
Dave
