CD Rom driver doesn't work

Here's the situation. I was happily playing Caesar III on Windows XP which I
have done for years. Suddenly, the game ends, screen goes black, then back to
my desktop. I tried to reinstall the Game but a prompt says enter disk into
drive. Fact is, the disk was already in the drive. Then after a few more
times, the drive just seemed to disappear. I cannot find it in my files. I
tried downloading service packs, etc. etc. but nothing works. Help anyone?

Enter your BIOS setup, to see if the bios sees the CD drive. If not, you
have some kind of broken hardware. Try a different cable.
