Hello,

Are you certain that you've enabled CD-ROM support, when booting from
the floppy disk?

how do I enable it, this is an IBM Aptiva machine

You should be able to see the driver reporting its
scan for cdrom drives on the black bios screen at
boot time when booting from the floppy.

If you cant, try making another bootable floppy.

when the pc boots up the bios screen goes by so quick i cant see it
scanning for anything

anymore suggestions

thanx

What PC? Brand, name, motherboard?
Change BIOS setting. Disable fast boot.

That was clumsy wording on my part.

I meant the black screen where you can see the
boot off the floppy. You should be able to see there
if the cdrom driver is being loaded and what it does
or does not find cdrom drive wise.

the pc is an IBM Aptiva, im just learning please help

Hello, Lynda:

Doesn't your boot floppy, as it's loading/scrolling, ask whether you
want to enable CD-ROM support? (My Windows Millennium "startup disk"
does, but, I don't know about WinXP's version.)

Good luck!

When I check system information in the BIOS screen it
shows there is a floppy drive, a hard drive being the primary master
and another hard drive the secondary slave.

The cd-om drive is attached to the secondary slave so should be the
secondary master.
Do you know how to set this up.

You cannot have two devices connected as "secondary slave".
Perform an experiment. Temporarily disconnect a "secondary slave hard
drive", start your computer and see if cdrom works properly.
If it does, you may need to connect your "another hard drive" to a primary
slave, or make it a secondary master and cdrom as secondary slave. Conform
to a standard practise regarding master/slave jumpers and physical
connection location on a secondary IDE ribbon cable (end connector / middle
connector).

I maded an error, the cd-rom drive is attached to the primary master.
But there is no primary slave in the system information.

Help!!!!!!

thanks for all your help everyone,

I got it working, would you believe it was down to the jumper settings.
the cd-rom drive was set as a master when it should have been a slave.

yeehaa

Typical mistake. Allmost everybody makes it once. I certainly did.
