Hello,

I am running my computer on XP, when I put a CD-Rom in
the drive, XP won't find it, if I put any other CD in the
drive it still won't work, the CDs work fine on my
brother's PC, but I get nothing from mine.

I had the same mess on my PC! found in a german forum at least a part of solution

"Start" -> "run" "gpedit.msc"
"you have to find the english complement by yourself, cause I have also a german version of XP
"Computerkonfiguration" -> "Administrative-Vorlagen" -> "System"

Doppelklicken auf "Autoplay deaktvieren" und diese Funktion deaktivieren
Nach Neustart hat es bei mir funktioniert....

hi again

Your not the only one in trouble, my first hint might not work so try the regedit :-

You need to activate the autoplay function of your cd dvd drive. I have had the same trouble. Vmware or maybe the bootvis.exe could be responsible for the change it's rather strange...I am not quite sure if it is neccessary to do it i the registery but that definetly helpe

Start -> run-> gpedit.mcs is one way I tryed I use a german XP Pro so you might have to find out the exact english complemen

Computerconfiguration -> System -> autoplay deactivate (on the right side

then restart if it doesn't help try thi

Start -> run-> regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MASCHINE -> System -> Services -> Cdrom doubleklick on Auto Run and change value from 0 to

then restart

it me again! I got almost crazy with that Problem cause it reapeared! but now I have the bugger

Have you installed Windows Mediaplayer and the latest hotfix? Can you read an audio CD from the Mediaplayer? if so unistall the Mediaplayer and the hotfix and reinstall the Mediaplayer without the hotfix, hopefully MS will fix the fix :-)
