When I put a CD into my CD rom drive (Which is also a re-
writer), the light turns on showing that the CD is in
there. But then it stops.

When I go into my computer to open the D drive - it
doesnt show a cd in the drive.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

Some of the things I would try:

Update drivers/firmware with latest from manufacturer

Try in Safe mode

Try removing the CD player in device manager and letting
Windows redetect it.

Tim

Try this CD-ROM in another computer drive and see if it works there. It may be a bad CD-ROM. Or, try different CD-ROMS in your drive. Is this a CD-R or CD-RW media? Sometimes older drives have trouble reading certain brands of media.

I had this problem also, after trying everything I ran a cd laser lense cleaner two times, it worked fine then. You apparently have to clean it frequently to optimise the laser lens.

Good luck

If your drive shows up in explorer, but won't read the
disc, try inserting a good data disc in the drive and
reboot. I'm not sure if an F5 (or ctl-f5) will force it
to retry the disc or not...
