After perfect operation for many months, my CD Rom is no
longer recognised. The following message appears....

"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its
configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete
or damaged. (Code 19)"

I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. I even
overlaid XP again and can use the CR Rom with what
appears to be "another" XP operating system.....I now
have 2 now on boot up!!!!!, but the original loaded op
system still doesn't recognise the drive.

There must be a simple answer.

Download this fix to fix missing Cd drives or drives with error 39
etc:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_cd_dvd_fix.htm. Download
the vbs
script file, double click it and click yes when prompted. You will
need to
reboot for the changes to take effect.

Edit boot.ini using msconfig.exe to remove the old entry.

Hi;
To begin with:
Disable the drive and delete the drivers in a "2 in 1" sweep.
Shut down.
Restart.

Hope and pray that this time...
Known to work quite often.
