For some reason my Internal CD Rom drive has
disappeared. In the Boot Menu (F2 setup) under drives
the CD Rom drive appears as Not Installed. Then of course
under My Computer or the Device Manager it does not
appear either. What could have caused this? I even
opened up my computer to make sure that no cables came
loose from the CD Rom? Is this a Virus? I state that
because at the same time this happened my Internet
service went down on only this machine in my network at
home. All other pcs were able to browse the interet just
finem except for this one. I finally had to get another
Router and then this PC was able to gain Internet
Access. I kinda wonder if this is some sort of
Filesharing Virus to keep people from File sharing.
Please HELP!!

If it's appearing as not installed in the BIOS then you need to do some
basic detective work.....

Is the ribbon cable securely connected to the drive and the motherboard at
both ends?

Is the power cable connected securely to the drive?

The drive MUST be correctly identified by the BIOS in order for Windows to
be able to see it. If all cables appear correct, then I'd suggest the drive
itself is failing and needs to be replaced.
