Cd-rom and DVD- CD RW wont work

I updated the windows XP update then went to use a disk
and I am giving a code 41 telling my my device drivers
are not working for my cd-roms I have tried to update the
drivers an I am told I have the right ones but they will
not work I also had a virus that norton supposedly
fixed ?? I called compaq and they said it was a window
software problem and I could pay them to try to fix
it ??? any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

(I believe that there are other ways to get the same errors without
uninstalling Easy CD Creator.)

Thank you Bob Knowlden for the link to Dougnox site, my cd rom ws not
working also, used the patch from Dougs' site and everyhting is back to
normal.
